Doxepin ( Adapin, Sinequan, Zonalon ) is an antidepressants, used in the treatment of many types of depression:

• refractory depression.
• major depression.
• mixed depression anxiety.
• neurotic depression.
• spontaneous endogenous depression.

Doxepin ( Adapin, Sinequan, Zonalon ) can also be used for the treatment of anxiety, chronic skin disorders, itching,panic disorders, peptic ulcer disease, postprandial hypoglycemia, posttraumatic stress disorder ( PTSD ), sleep disorders, or to stop the cravings of smoking, swelling, and to decrease nightly urination. Doxepin ( Adapin, Sinequan, Zonalon ) has been used to combat chronic pain in, arthritis, diabetic disease, herpes lesions, migraines, pain in cancer patients, tension headaches, or tic douloureux

Strengths:

Capsules:
10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg.

Oral Concentrate:
10 mg per ml.

Topical Cream:
50 mg per gram.

Dosages: Actual dosage must be determined by a physician.

Oral:
Start: 25 mg, 3 to 4 times daily.
Increases: 10 mg to 25 mg daily in intervals of 7 days.
Maintenance: 75 mg to 150 mg in 24 hours.
Maximum: 500 mg in 24 hours.

Normal dosage:

If under 12 years of age, DO NOT USE.
12 to 60 years of age,75 mg to 150 mg.
Over 60 years of age, Lower dosage.

Problems with:

Liver Function: Carefully monitored.
Kidney Function: Carefully monitored.

Test:

Before taking: Electrocardiogram.
While taking: None.

Take With: With food.

Full Benefits In: First day to one or two weeks.

Missed Dose(s): If within one hour take, if over an hour skip and then continue on your normal schedule. If you only take at this drug at bedtime and miss a dose, do not take in the morning.
Never Take a Double Dose.

If Stop Taking: Do not stop without consulting your physician and never abruptly.

Overdose symptoms include: Agitation, breath problems, coma, delirium, or shock. Can be fatal.

Warnings

The habit-forming potential is none. If stopped abruptly withdrawal syndromes have been reported with his medicine.

Do not take this drug if you are pregnant,try some non-drug alternatives.

Do not take this drug if planning to become pregnant.Do not take if you are breast-feeding.

Do not smoke while taking this drug.

Do not drink alcohol while taking this drug.

Do not give this drug to children under the age of twelve.If over sixty only use drug in small doses and with close monitoring of it's side effects and be careful when standing,the elderly sometimes fall when using this drug

Do not use if: You had negative reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the past. If you have taken or are now taking any MAO inhibitors in the last 14 days.If you have a recent heart attack.If you have narrow-angle glaucoma.

Inform your Doctor if:

• You had negative reactions to this drug or any drug in this class in the pass.
• If you have history of epilepsy, diabetes, glaucoma, heart / liver disease, an overactive thyroid, or an enlarged prostate gland.
• If you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drug.
• If you plan to be under anesthesia or having any surgery in the next few months, also if you will be undergoing any medical tests.

Doxepin ( Symptoms or Effects )

Common: Constipation, blurred vision, drowsiness, dry mouth, or low blood pressure.

Rare: Allergies, confusion, increased appetite, insomnia, irritation of tongue / mouth, racing heartbeat / palpitations, ringing in ears, seizures, sexual problems, or skin rash.

See physician if severe: Constipation,blurred vision, drowsiness,dry mouth, increased appetite,insomnia,irritation of tongue / mouth,racing heartbeat / palpitations,ringing in ears.
